Percents

You have just graduated college and have found your dream job as a actress/veterinarian Let's pretend you will be making around $1200 per month, depending on overtime, bonuses, etc. Now here is the deal - you need to make sure you manage your money wisely. Answer the following questions:

1) Your rent plus utilities (gas, water, internet, phone, etc.) is $540 a month! What percentage of your monthly income is this?

540/ 1200= 0.45= 45%

2) You spend about 6% of your income per month on your cell phone bill! What amount is this?

0.06 x 1200= $72

3) You usually spend around $200 per month on groceries. Find this percentage.

200/1200 x n/100. n=60 = 60%

(200n=12000)

4) You spend about $40 per week on gas filling your car's gas tank! What percentage of your monthly income is spent on gas?

40 x 4= 160

160/1200= .13= 13%

5) You like to use the remaining money and split it - using 60% on entertainment (movies, shopping, etc.) and putting the other 40% in savings. About how much money is spent on entertainment and how much is put in savings? i have $228 left
228 x .6o= 136.8
228 x .40= 91.2

i would spend $136.80 on entertainment and i would spend $91.20 on savings.

Gas Prices

Part one: the commute!

it would cost 39.60 dollars to fill up my entire tank now that the gas prices dropped to $2.20. the difference in cost from before is $18.90!!! thats almost $20 less than it was last month!! the lowest gas price in ohio is $1.68! thats really low considering how high it has been lately.

Part two: the reason!

in this article, i learned the gas prices began to drop because the world was getting ready for a recesssion. also in the article it said that the dropping gas prices are helping to give people the money they need. the gas prices are at record lows because the nation has suffered from the stock market crash. that was the main reason in the article said the gas prices were falling.

assignment 4 =]]

2.) if i am considered an average american, i would drive about 105 miles a week driving to work and the same amount back. i figured this out by doing 15 miles x 7 days a week.

3.) the total cost of gas from traveling to work in one week for me would be $26.73 when p=$2.48 and mpg=32.
****BONUS****
$106.92 per month spent on gas
i originally chose a hybrid car, and i would definitely stick with it based on the cost of gas per week. the cost would stay low for sure!!!

Saturn Vue Hybrid

if my parents would buy me any car i wanted, i would buy a saturn vue hybrid. i picked this car because it is energy efficient and its good for the environment. this car holds 18 gallons in its tank and gets 32 miles per gallon, but you can drive up to 585 miles on a single tank!!! if i filled the entire tank it would cost $58.50. also, it comes in different colors, like silver nickel, storm gray, deep blue, cypress green, chili pepper red, polar white and black onyx. i think i would get either deep blue, black onyx or chili pepper red with a gray interior color. it costs $25,645!!! even though this hybrid car is really expensive, i think it would be worth the extra money. this is most definitely the car i want!

why are we blogging for math?

i think we are blogging in math class because it can help us communicate and get help with some math things that we might not get a chance to ask about during class. i think these blogs can really be fun and they can make learning fun too. i think thats the reason were doing blogs in math class.
